Fans at Estádio da Luz
The "Inferno da Luz" continues to boast a loyal following that is unparalleled at national level, and also enviable in European and world terms. Looking at the last 50 official games at their stadium, Benfica have seen their attendance exceed 60,000 on 13 occasions, the last of which was precisely in the clash with Santa Clara on September 14, 2024, a date that marked Bruno Lage's return to the Eagles' coaching staff. These impactful figures were the subject of analysis and commentary on BTV's Aquecimento program on Thursday evening, Sep 26.
In 2023/24 there were four matches with more than 60,000 people in the stands at the Estádio da Luz (Vitória SC, Salzburg, FC Porto and Sporting), and in 2022/23 the same scenario was seen in eight matches (Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Sporting, Club Brugge, FC Porto, Inter Milan, Braga and Santa Clara).
In these same 50 matches, in addition to the 13 that registered attendances of more than 60,000 spectators, we can also see that in 44 matches there were more than 50,000 fans at the Estádio da Luz, and in only six did the number of spectators fall below that threshold. What's more, none of the matches in question were attended by fewer than 40,000 people.
