Otamendi, captain of Benfica's professional football team, has been included in the official squad for Argentina's next two matches, to be played in October as part of qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

The Albiceleste national team's schedule includes an away match in Venezuela, scheduled for October 10, and a clash in Argentina against Bolivia, on October 16, at 1:00 am in mainland Portugal.
