Knowing that only a draw was needed to seal victory in the tournament - due to the 3-4 win over Sevilla the previous day - Filipa Patão launched Rute Costa, Carole Costa, Christy Ucheibe, Laís Araújo, Marit Lund, Andreia Norton, Andreia Faria, Anna Gasper, Nycole Raysla, Lara Martins and Chandra Davidson into the starting eleven for the derby against Sporting, which could - and did -be worth the Women's Algarve Trophy.
Benfica won 3-1 to clinch the Women's Algarve Trophy. The Eagles picked up six points, three more than Spanish side Sevilla, while Sporting didn't pick up any points.
Benfica plays again next Saturday, August 17, in the Super Cup semi-finals, against Damaiense, which will take place at Benfica Campus.
