Otamendi, captain of Benfica's professional football team, led Argentina in their quarter-final clash with France at the Paris 2024 Men's Olympic Football Tournament on Friday, August 2, at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux. The Gauls won 1-0, a goal from Mateta, and the Albiceleste ended their campaign.

The Eagles' central defender played the full 90 minutes, captaining his team in a match in which, according to the Sofascore platform, he made eight interceptions, won six of the seven aerial duels he contested and had 63 touches of the ball. His passing efficiency was 78%.

France-Egypt and Morocco-Spain are the semi-finals of the competition.

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
