"We were the team that always tried the hardest to win this game. We also knew we were up against a good opponent. They're very compact, they defend very well. It was a game of patience, and we got the goal", said Benfica's No. 20 jersey in a quick post-match interview on Sunday, March 17.
João Mário highlighted what the team had to change from the first to the second half in order to win the three points against the Geese.
"We tried to be more objective. In the first half, we almost tried to take the ball past de goal line. We could have exploited the midfield, the width, and the manager corrected that for us at half-time. I think the second half was all ours, it was only a matter of time before we scored," he said.
On the sports front, the midfielder also spoke about the break in club competitions and his goals for the rest of the season.
"That's what breaks are for, now it's time to rest. We've had a very demanding month, with lots of matches. We're still in all the competitions, and we want to win them all," he stressed.
