Artur Jorge, a former player and coach at the club, has passed away.

Artur Jorge
Artur Jorge played for Benfica for six seasons (1969-1975), making 184 appearances and scoring an impressive 152 goals (including in friendly matches). A remarkable goalscorer who will always be remembered by Benfica fans.
Artur Jorge will also be remembered in the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica for being part of a magnificent team that won the league title without defeat, coached at the time by Jimmy Hagan.
As a player, Artur Jorge won seven titles, including four Championships, two Portuguese Cups, and one Honor Cup. In Europe, Benfica twice reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup with his contribution and participation.
At Benfica, Artur Jorge was the top scorer in the league twice, winning two Silver Balls, and played for Portugal's senior team on 16 occasions.
Later, between 1994 and 1996, Artur Jorge coached Benfica's first team for two seasons.
As well as being a reference in Portuguese sport, Artur Jorge was a man passionate about the arts, and his union and political dimension in football, at a particular time in Portugal, was also recognized.
Artur Jorge's death leaves a void that is difficult to fill, and Sport Lisboa e Benfica joins in his family's grief, respecting his memory as a great sportsman and a human being of recognized moral values.
