17 February 2024, 16h45
With the best timein the semi-finals, Diogo Ribeiro started from lane 4 and covered the distance in 51.17 seconds, beating off competition from Austrian Simon Bucher (51.28 seconds) and Pole Jakub Majerski (51.32 seconds), who completed the podium.
Message from the President
The time achieved in the final also allowed the Benfica swimmer to set a new national record for the 100-meter butterfly, which he had set the day before (Friday, February 16) during the semi-finals (51.30 seconds).
In his first reaction to the title, Diogo Ribeiro didn't hide his happiness at winning his second gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships. "It was a difficult race. I've never done a final in the 100m butterfly before, and I'm very grateful to my teammates and everyone who supports me. I have medals in all the finals I've competed in [at World Championships]," recalled the member of the Glorioso Olympic Project.
