Sport Lisboa e Benfica informs that it has reached an agreement with Al-Duhail, from Qatar, for the permanent transfer of footballer Lucas Veríssimo.

Signed by Benfica in January 2021, in the winter transfer window, Lucas Veríssimo was straight into the team: he played in 17 games and scored two goals by the end of the 2020/21 season.

In his first full season with an eagle on his chest (2021/22), the Brazil international central midfielder made 18 appearances (and scored three goals) until November 7, 2021, when a serious injury kept him off the pitch until 2022/23, a season in which he made six appearances and became national champion.

Last summer, on July 26, 2023, he moved on loan to Brazilian side Corinthians. The central midfielder has now joined Al-Duhail on a permanent basis.

SL Benfica wishes Lucas Veríssimo all the best in this new phase of his career.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
