Benfica's João Neves made his debut this Monday, October 16, for the Portuguese National Team. The Reds' midfielder bagged his first minutes after coming on in the 85th minutes in the emphatic triumph over Bosnia and Herzegovina (0-5).

Despite only playing a few minutes, the 19-year-old center-back made seven passes (100% success rate) and suffered a rough tackle that earned Kolasinac a yellow card in the 88th minute.

"It was a special night. I'd like to thank the team for the way they welcomed me. It's something that's going to mark my career, and it's going to be memorable. I'm very happy! I hope it's the first of many [international caps]. I have to keep working at the club, and then I can play for the national team", said João Neves.

In Zenica, with qualification for the 2024 European Championship already assured, Portugal went in at half-time leading 0-5 in this match of the gameweek 8 of Group J.

Cristiano Ronaldo, from the penalty spot after 5 minutes, opened the scoring and added a second after 20 minutes. Bruno Fernandes (25'), João Cancelo (32') and João Félix (41') scored the other goals. The score remained unchanged in the second half, with António Silva not coming off the bench.

Portugal's next opponent, having secured 1st place in the group, is Liechtenstein, in a match scheduled for November 16.
