The swimmer from SL Benfica won the silver medal and broke the national record in the 50-meter butterfly at the Fukuoka World Championships.
24 July 2023, 13h16
Diogo Ribeiro
Swimming in lane 1, the 18-year-old (the youngest in the final) broke the national record in the discipline by completing the race in 22.80 seconds, only surpassed by the Italian Thomas Ceccon (22.68). The French Maxime Grousset rounded off the podium (22.82).
Speaking to the Portuguese Swimming Federation, Diogo Ribeiro shared his happiness at the achievement: "I'm speechless. I still can't believe it. It's a dream come true! I knew I could dream. Facing one race at a time, being focused and giving everything."
🤪 Close podium in +00.14!
