The 2023/24 pre-season of Sport Lisboa e Benfica's professional football team will start on July 5, the date set for the resumption of activities, with the usual medical and physical tests.

The national champion returns to England and St. George's Park for a training camp from July 9 to 15, in preparation for the new season. There, Roger Schmidt's men will play a friendly match, behind closed doors, against Southampton FC, scheduled for 3 pm on the July 12.

The departure from St. George's Park is scheduled for July 15 (after lunch), bound for Basel, Switzerland. On July 16 (4 pm local time) Benfica will face FC Basel at St. Jakob-Park Stadium in a friendly match (tickets here), and the return to Lisbon will take place immediately after the match.

The eagles continue the pre-season in the south of Portugal, with the participation in the Algarve Trophy on July 20 and 21, where they will face Saudi side Al Nassr and Spanish side RC Celta respectively.

 Benfica's preparation for 2023/24 also includes a friendly match against Feyenoord in the Netherlands, at De Kuip Stadium, at 4 pm (local) on July 30. After the match, the team travels back to Lisbon.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
