Rodrigo Lopes Figueiredo Pires, a 16-year-old midfielder (31/03/2006), signed a professional contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

A U-17 player, Rodrigo Pires started playing at Recreios Desportivos do Algueirão, and he also represented CF Os Belenenses in 2017/18, the season in which he was signed by SL Benfica.

"I am very happy and proud that this great club believes in me. I want to continue to show my work and live up to the expectations", said the midfielder, in statements to BTV, highlighting: "It has been years of great evolution."

Living his sixth season at the Club, Rodrigo Pires has 19 games in the 2022/23 National U-17 Championship.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
