Roger Schmidt

PRESS CONFERENCE

Roger Schmidt analyzed in a press conference Benfica's 1-2 victory in Turin, against Juventus, in a game from matchday 2 of group H of the Champions League, this Wednesday, September 14.

Juventus-Benfica

A FAIR AND COURAGEOUS VICTORY

"We had to work hard, believe in our abilities and play courageous football. There was a lot of intensity from Juventus in the beginning, we were not so prepared for that. They had some good moments to score goals and they scored one. After 15, 20 minutes it was a different game, and then, especially after the break, we changed some things and played with more intensity, we played our game. We did well, scored the second goal and could have decided the match. We missed a few chances, and in the end it was still a hard fight and they had a few chances. We deserved to win, it was a great display, a great fight from the players. I'm very proud today."

Juventus-Benfica

HALF-TIME TALK

"At half-time, I told them the truth, that we were not playing like a top team. We were not playing like a team that wanted to win the match. I told them that we had to increase our effort, be more aggressive, apply better pressure, and also believe in our way of playing. In the second half we showed that, we were able to win the duels, do well in transitions, do counterattacks and create opportunities. We showed a different attitude and aggressiveness."

THE KEY

"We had everything. We had good moments in the duels, it's a quality we have, with possession we were able to create good chances, we were good at high pressure, we showed everything at the right time. That was the key."

MAKE THE FANS HAPPY

"Our fans helped us a lot. They are fantastic at home, but they are also fantastic away. They always make a big effort to support us in away games, to come to the stadium and support the team, and that is why we always try our best and want to make them happy and proud, for the style of play we have and with victories."

ASPIRATIONS

"As we said at the beginning, we want to reach the knockout stage, and of course, two wins is great, but there are four matches left. We showed that we can be one of the two best teams, but now we have to focus on the Portuguese League, and after the international break we have a big challenge with the two matches against Paris Saint-Germain, let's see what happens. We fight game by game."
