Emanuel de Medeiros e Carlos Moia

The Benfica Foundation, systematically seeking the best practices worldwide, has adopted the Universal Standards of SIGA - Sport Integrity Global Alliance and will be an active partner in promoting increased levels of Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability in Sport.

The memorandum, signed this Thursday, May 19, by the Foundation's CEO, Carlos Moia, and SIGA's CEO, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, establishes clear objectives between the parties, as well as areas of cooperation and matters of common interest, which include:

  • Promote the positive values of Sport and its social, educational, cultural, and economic role;

  • Strengthen integrity, transparency, accountability, and sustainability in Sport;

  • Promote gender equity, diversity, social inclusion, and accessibility in Sport, as well as prevent and fight all forms of discrimination, intolerance and abuse;

  • Mobilize the power of Sports to address the adverse social and environmental impacts caused by climate change, particularly in deprived areas, promoting energy justice between developed and underdeveloped countries, namely in Portuguese-speaking countries.

It should also be mentioned that this initiative is aligned with the Foundation's Strategic Plan and that good practices are already being developed in this area. In particular, we highlight the National Plan for Ethics in Sports, through which the Benfica Foundation has already been awarded the Flag of Ethics.
