Fernando Pimenta in the semi-finals!

The Benfica canoeist Fernando Pimenta secured his presence in the semi-finals of the K1 1000 meters at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Controlling the race from the start, Fernando Pimenta managed a record of 3.40,323 minutes, beating Slovak Peter Gele, second and also qualified for the semi-finals 1.808 seconds behind Benfiquista.

"I tried to do a good management, look for good sensations, the most important thing. I found a good rhythm and then slowed down a bit, because I could do that. In the final part I had to be vigilant, because rivals were fighting for the second semi-final spot and I didn't want to be surprised", he said, in statements with Lusa.
