Sport Lisboa e Benfica expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Alfredo Quintana, as well as to FC Oporto and the Handball Federation of Portugal.

According to information provided by Hospital de São João, in Oporto, the 32-year-old player, passed away this Friday at noon, four days after the cardiac arrest suffered during a training session.

Quintana was, currently, one of the most notable handball goalkeepers. Born in Havana, became a Portuguese citizen and played for the National Team, since 2014, writing his name on the best campaigns ever in European Cups (6th, in 2020) and World Cups (10th, a month ago).

This is a moment to pay tribute to an outstanding athlete who gave everything for the jerseys he played with. His legacy and strong sporting spirit will remain forever as a reference to the youngsters aiming at a handball career.
