Jorge Jesus: "Match within Benfica's objectives and responsibility"

Jorge Jesus previewed the League Cup quarter-final match against V. Guimarães. The head to head is scheduled for 9 pm this Wednesday at Estádio da Luz. 

With what concept, in the sense of squad management, will you approach this match?

This match falls within Benfica's objectives and responsibility. We step onto the pitch to win in all competitions and we have to manage the athletes according to the best moment. This match against V. Guimarães… they also have their goals. The cups give teams every chance to dream that they can reach the final. It's different of the championship with 34 rounds. We'll carry out three, four, five changes.

This match is for the League Cup. Jorge Jesus, representing Benfica, has a history in this competition. How do you see the evolution and the importance of this competition in the national calendar?

I think this competition has evolved. It has a final with an organization at the level of the Portuguese Cup final or at the level of a Europa League, whose final I have already been twice. I feel that it is a competition with prestige in the Portuguese calendar. I think we should take a step forward. What could the winner of the League Cup achieve apart from the trophy? I think that case should be thought through. Either be financially compensated or secure qualification for a Europa League. I think it was important to value this competition even more.
