After the first rounds of the Liga NOS (eight) and of the II Liga (ten), the fixtures of the quarterfinals of the 2020/21 League Cup are defined. Benfica welcomes Vitória de Guimarães to Estádio da Luz, currently 6th place in the Championship.

With a different competitive framework due to COVID-19, the League Cup 2020/21 starts with eight teams – the top six in the Liga NOS and the top two in the second division – in the quarter-finals , in a single match, in the home ground of the top four teams in the Portuguese top flight, between December 15 and 17.

Between January 16 and 23, 2021, the final four that will decide the winner of the edition of the competition takes place at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, in Leiria.

Sport Lisboa e Benfica, with seven trophies, is the Club with the most League Cups. It lift the trophy in 2008/09, 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.

Benfica's professional football team held another training session on Saturday, April 26, at the Benfica Campus, with a view to the match against AVS, scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at the Estádio da Luz. The match from round 31 of the Liga Betclic is scheduled for 6 pm.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
