After the win in the opening round of the Liga NOS, Benfica is preparing for matchday 2 of the competition, where it will face Belenenses SAD. The match is scheduled for 7:00 pm on August 17 (Saturday), at Estádio Nacional.

In addition to winning the International Champions Cup and the Super Cup, the team coached by Bruno Lage got off to a good start in the league. The Reds thrashed Paços de Ferreira (5-0) o Paços on matchday 1 of the 2019/20 Liga NOS.

Belenenses SAD, who will play its home matches at Estádio Nacional, in Oeiras, for the second season, will be Benfica's second opponent in the Portuguese top flight. Last season, the team finished 9th, with 43 points, the result of 10 wins, 13 draws and 11 losses. In total, it scored 42 goals and conceded 51.

In 2019/20, the team coached by Jorge Fernandes, best known as Silas, finished the preseason with three wins over Mafra (3-1), Amora and Sunderland (both by 1-0), followed by 1-all draw against Farense and a defeat against Alverca (1-0).

In the first official match of the season, against Santa Clara, Belenenses SAD lost 1-0 at home and did not qualify for the group stage of the League Cup.

On matchday 1 of the Liga NOS, the 42-year-old coach played in 4-3-3 with : Koffi; Francisco Varela, Gonçalo Silva (captain), Nuno Coelho, Diogo Calila (Símon Ramírez 74’); André Sousa (Eduardo Kau 57’), André Santos, Jonatan Lucca; Licá, Kikas e Dieguinho (Matija Ljujic 46’), in a match between Belenenses SAD and Portimonense (August 9, in Portimão), that finished with a scoreless draw.
