Rúben: “It's a match that decides a trophy and always important”

On the opening day of Canal 11, a new project of the Portuguese Football Federation, the center-backs of Benfica and Sporting, Rúben and Neto, respectively, were in the studio and launched the Super Cup derby scheduled for Sunday, at 8:45 pm, at Estádio Algarve.

“For any player or club, it is important to win a trophy. It's a game that decides a trophy and it's always important, whatever the context”, started by saying the center-back from the Eagles.

After a tough preseason physically, the official matches have arrived and the first is a derby with a title at state.

“After all, that's what the public and we want. It's a top-notch competition. Derbies are games lived to the fullest. On the pitch, each team has its own strategy, but it is to enjoy with the best, fight on the pitch and may the best win”, he wished.

For Benfica to fight for all competitions is to respect the century-old history of the Club and its DNA. Rúben embodies that and has aimed for a successful season.

“Step onto the pitch to win every match and compete for all competitions is an obligation and a way of being of the Club. Is part of how we are nurtured and of the way we work. In the European competitions, Benfica has a rich history and we must respect that history. The ambition is to always win.  I have the philosophy of going game by game, training by training. It's a way of being to be effective.”, he claimed.
