29 May 2018, 11h00
Jonas was elected the Liga NOS Footballer of the Year; the men's roller hockey team was considered the Best of the Year; Fernando Pimenta and João Pereira were chosen as Athletes of the Year in canoeing and in triathlon, respectively.
In the I Liga, Jonas won the Top Scorer Award, with 34 goals – the best mark from a Benfica player after Eusébio, in 1973 – and finished the season as one of Europe's top scorer, jointly withMessi. The forward from the Eagles also won the Liga NOS Player of the Month six times in a row.
The men's Roller Hockey squad deserves the award by the Sport's Journalist by the conquest of the Intercontinental Cup against Reus. In Spain, the competition took place in a final four format, with the eagles beating Andes Talleres from Argentina (7-4) and in the final, the Spanish of Reus (5-3).
In the triathlon, João Pereira became European Champion in Kitzbühel, in Austria, after completing the event in 1h45m31s. In 2017, Fernando Pimenta kept winning medals in the canoeing, with the greatest emphasis being given to the Gold medal won in The Czech Republic, in K1 5000 m, in the World Championships.
The vice-president Sílvio Cervan received the awards on behalf of the awardees, on Monday afternoon.
The CNID celebration paid tribute to the football and futsal European champions (Benfica, 1961 and 1962; FC Porto, 1987 and 2004; Football National Team, 2016, and Futsal National Team, 2018).
