The Brazilian forward, with 21 goals, also leads the list of top scorers in the Top 10 Leagues of the Old Continent.
16 January 2018, 16h45
At this point, the Brazilian forward has 21 goals in the Portuguese League, one more goal than Harry Kane, who has 20 in the Premier League playing for Tottenham. The Uruguayan Edinson Cavani rounds off the podium, with 19 goals playing for Paris Saint-Germain, in the French league.
Apart from leading the list of top scorers in the most important leagues – Spanish, English, Italian, German, French, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian and Belgium (this last three are currently in the winter break) –, Jonas is also, among the top scorers of this Championships, the player who has been scoring in more consecutive league matches: five, against SC Braga, Moreirense, Sporting, Tondela (2) and Estoril. The streak could be even longer if it wasn't for the match against FC Porto (0-0), which interrupted a 10-match scoring streak (with 14 goals).
Right behind Jonas is Lionel Messi. The Barcelona forward and the top scorer of the Spanish League- who has scored 17 goals in 19 league games– is in the three-match scoring streak (Real Sociedad, Levante, and Real Madrid).
Fyodor Smolov, , a player from FK Krasnodar of the Russian league, rounds off this podium. The 27-year-old has scored, up to now, 10 goals in 19 rounds, in a championship which is in the winter break since December. Fyodor Smolov scored in the last two matches (Akhmat Grozny e FK Ural).
Since he arrived at Benfica, in 2014/15, Jonas has already scored 86 goals in the National Championship. Of the 17 opponent team at this moment in Liga NOS, the forward just has not scored against Saturday’s opponent, Chaves, that returned to the Portuguese top flight in the last season.
On Saturday, Benfica and Chaves face again in an afternoon where a pilgrimage to Estádio da Luz is expected. The tickets are on sale.
