Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.

Two-time European champion, synonymous with the Sport Lisboa e Benfica mystique, José Augusto was honored on Sunday, April 13, the day of his 88th birthday. During half-time of the Benfica-Arouca match, on matchday 29 of the Liga Betclic, he was applauded by the Benfiquistas and thanked for the gesture from the Presidential Tribune. There, in the box, in the presence of President Rui Costa, among José Augusto's friends and family, Happy Birthday was sung to one of the undeniable names in the history of the Glorioso.

The President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica celebrates his 53rd anniversary this Saturday, March 29. On this same day, in 1972, Rui Costa was born, the child who became a man, with his passion for Benfica always present, in a personal and professional career that has made him a key figure in the Club.
