After 40 years, in 2008, it came back in both fronts, men’s and women’s teams, being a part of the combat sports of the gymnastics department.
On December 2, 1957, the practice of boxing was introduced at Benfica, following the success of the Torneio Popular de Boxe – Cinturão do Benfica, organized by the “reds” at the skating rink of the Feira Popular, in the summer of that year.
The sport continued to be active until 1968, with the highlight being winning the National Championship in 1967. Forty years later, in 2008, the sport was revived for men, but also for women. Its return was marked by winning the Regional and National Championships for men and the Portuguese Cup for women.
Women's boxing would continue for two years, and men's boxing until 2016. In 2021/22, the sport was reactivated in both genders.
